Topic: Paradigm Shifts in Thinking and Therapy of Atrial Fibrillation.
Speaker: Sanjiv Narayan, MD, from Stanford University

Dr. Narayan is a practicing cardiac electrophysiologist and Professor of Medicine at Stanford University where he co-directs the Stanford Arrhythmia Center.  He is also Director of the Atrial Fibrillation Program and of Electrophysiology Research.

Dr. Narayan has developed an active research program to discover the causes of human heart rhythm disorders, and use that information to improve treatment.  Funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health for over 15 years, Dr. Narayan’s group has reported that human AF is caused by localized rotors and sources, and has developed approaches to ablate them.  This approach has altered mechanistic thinking about AF, and is clinically effective.  Dr. Narayan has authored over 200 articles and book chapters.

Dr. Narayan trained in medicine and software engineering in England, received his doctorate in neuroscience from research done at UCLA then completed his clinical training at Harvard/Mount Auburn Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Narayan is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.
