LECTURE:    Sleeping for Peak Performance and Your Heart

When it comes to promoting healthy hearts and peak performance, it's not just a matter of getting more sleep. Rather, it's a matter of getting enough sleep, of adequate quality, at optimal times. Michael Grandner, PhD, will provide an update on research that shows the links between optimal sleep duration, quality, and timing on heart health, heart-healthy behaviors, and physical performance. These relationships encompass areas including cardiovascular function, weight gain and metabolism, inflammation and recovery, neurocognitive function and decision-making (making healthy choices), energy level and motivation and diet/nutrition. Also, learn how other factors affect your sleep health, including the amount of light you get, when you eat and exercise, how much you socialize, how you spend time in the evening winding down and what you do once you're in bed. (The presentation is part of the UA Sarver Heart Center’s 30th Anniversary Lecture Series.)
