The Heart of the Matter - Women and Cardiovascular Disease |
| |
Too many women still think breast cancer is the “number one killer”, when in fact ten times more women die of heart disease.
Women experiencing heart trouble are more likely to write it off as something not related to the heart and thus not seek emergency care.
They are also more likely to be misdiagnosed with a non-heart related condition than men are, partly because symptoms in women can differ vastly from those in men.
Little known is the fact that women are more likely to have a silent (unnoticed) heart attack.
The best way for women and their families to prevent heart disease and stroke is to learn about cardiovascular health and stay informed. The UA Sarver Heart Center Women Heart Health Education Committee is hosting a luncheon specifically geared toward but not only for women. A panel of experts from the Sarver Heart Center will give presentations on topics such as risk recognition and prevention, nutrition, exercise and the kinds of questions every woman should ask her doctor. The event will offer plenty of opportunity for questions and answers as well. |
