| Campaign Arizona is a celebration of the
partnership between the University of Arizona and its many friends and
supporters. With a goal of $1 billion, the Campaign features more than
200 interdisciplinary projects from every corner of campus, including
the Sarver Heart Center.
Before its scheduled conclusion on June 30, 2005, Campaign Arizona will further lift the University's high profile across America. More than 200 projects comprise the drive, including an expanded array of endowed faculty positions and increased student scholarship funding. Priorities also include increased funding for life saving research and a more solid base of supporting technologies and facilities. The variety of projects encompassed by Campaign Arizona attests to the incredibly broad range of service provided by the University. Campaign Arizona is organized according to a series of individual projects endorsed along comprehensive "mega-concepts." Mega-concepts typically involve multiple units or colleges and are interdisciplinary in nature. The Sarver Heart Center was intentionally formed as an interdisciplinary Center of Excellence focused on the common interests of faculty and scientists across departments and units. Research at the Sarver Heart Center is focused on " a future free of heart and vascular disease." Garnering private gifts in support of this mission is a critical priority of Campaign Arizona. President Peter Likins feels strongly that Campaign Arizona is a watershed project for the entire campus: "This is a pivotal time in the evolution of our fine institution. Together, we can capture the moment and help shape the future of our beloved University of Arizona." Co-chairs for the campaign include Karl Eller, chairman and CEO of Eller Media Company; Helen Lovaas, retired chairman and CEO of Hudson RCI; Norman McClelland, chairman, Shamrock Foods; James Rogers, owner and president, Sunbelt Broadcasting; and Melvin Zuckerman, chairman of the board, Canyon Ranch Health Resorts. Honorary Co-chairs include Roy P. Drachman, Peter Kiewitt Jr., and Donald N. Soldwedel. Campaign Arizona is an effort to assist alumni and friends in finding ways to help their areas of interest and to learn the many ways to make a difference by giving to specific projects. "It is a highly effective effort to assist alumni and friends to find their passion and to learn the many ways to make a difference through the university," Mrs. Lovaas says. "There are so many tremendous projects under way and progress is being made on many fronts at the University. Campaign Arizona is enabling people to invest in that which they truly believe."
