The Heart Series celebrated 25 years of continuous instruction by Charles Katzenberg, MD, and Edna Silva, RN, on the 10 behaviors that are proven to prevent and reverse heart disease and transform lives. Dr. Katzenberg, clinical professor of medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson and cardiologist in the Sarver Heart Center's Division of Cardiology, presented a lecture on Aug. 13, 2017.
A panel of Heart Series alumni then presented their success stories. Panelists included:
Adina Wingate, director of marketing and public relations at Pima Council on Aging: "I feel grateful for the Heart Series because the lessons that I learned in the series of 12 classes have given me confidence to make heart-healthy lifestyle changes, reframe how to live every day, and granted me 14 years of improved quality of life."
Rusty Kothavala: "My participation in the Heart Series has been literally life saving. I went from imminent danger of fatality from multiple 60 - 80 percent cardiac arterial blockage to now enjoying, at age 83, the best health I've enjoyed in decades ... all without surgery!"
Mary Mock: "I started the class two years ago. I was overweight, borderline diabetic, trouble sleeping. I came to the Heart Series hoping to find resolutions to my problems, and I did. I lost 100 pounds and have maintained my weight loss. I meditate, exercise. I'm totally off meat and dairy and love the cooking. It's fun, enjoyable."
