Tucson Myofilament Meeting, May 23-26

The Tucson Myofilament Meeting is an international 3.5-day Sarver Heart Center conference that brings together approximately 250 scientists focused on the structure and function of the myofilaments that comprise the contractile machinery of muscle. Spanning topics from molecular biophysics to heart and skeletal muscle disease mechanisms and drug development, the meeting is known for its highly interactive, collaborative, and informal atmosphere, with strong engagement of early career investigators.

Traditionally held biennially at the University of Wisconsin, the meeting will continue at the University of Arizona beginning in May 2026, offering a distinctive Tucson setting that fosters scientific exchange and community building.

Doc Talks: How Innovation is Changing the Future of Medical Intervention

Co-sponsored by the College of Medicine – Tucson and Banner Health, Doc Talks is a free lecture series for the Tucson community. 

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, Michael Dake, MD, will present the third of four free lectures as part of the Doc Talks series. Dr. Dake is an internationally recognized physician-scientist, health educator and innovative medical researcher. Prior to joining the UA as senior vice president for health sciences, Dr. Dake served as Stanford University's Thelma and Henry Doelger Professorof Cardiothoracic Surgery. He made medical history in 1992 with the implantation of the world's first thoracic stent-graft at Stanford, the first aortic stent-graft done in the U.S.

Dr. Dake's lecture, "How Innovation is Changing the Future of Medical Intervention," will focus on cutting-edge innovations being developed at the University of Arizona Health Sciences and Banner Health that are advancing health and medicine.

The lecture will commence at 6 p.m., but guests are encouraged to arrive early for a Wellness Expo featuring free skin UV damage analyses, osteoporosis tests and more.
