November is National American Indian Heritage Month
The UAHS Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Native American Research and Training Institute, AZ Indians into Medicine, American Indian & Indigenous Health Alliance and the Committee on Inclusive Excellence Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health invite you to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, histories and the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to raise general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.
We Breathe Again (2017) intimately explores the lives of four Alaska Native people, each confronting the impacts of intergenerational trauma and suicide. Reflected in the northern lights and the city streetlights, from the ice roads to the asphalt, the characters battle for personal healing, hoping to break new trail for their families and their communities to follow.
