"The Horizon of Heart Failure: Updates on Therapies and Clinical Trials"

Sophia Airhart, MD

Sophia Airhart, MD, is an assistant professor in the UA College of Medicine-Tucson, Division of Cardiology. She is a board certified advanced heart failure specialist and clinical researcher specializing in advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplantation.

Dr.Airhart received her BA in philosophy from Whitman College. Following medical school at Oregon Health & Science University, Dr. Airhart completed her internal medicine residency at Barnes Jewish Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO.  She completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA and an advanced fellowship in heart failure/transplant cardiology at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. 

She is principle investigator of several HFpEF and HFrEF clinical trials and has authored multiple original research publications as well as book chapters on Cardiomyopathy.  She is a recipient of the American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship Award for her work researching novel nutritional therapy for systolic heart failure

She is an associate editor for Circulation: Heart Failure and an associate editorial team lead for the Pulmonary Hypertension Section ACC.org.
