Last Spring, we focused on the COVID-19 pandemic and plan to have a follow-up session in the near future. This fall, we plan to address the relationship between institutionalized racism and healthcare. Our goal for these upcoming sessions is to come together as healthcare professionals to discuss how institutionalized racism results in healthcare disparities that must be corrected in order to provide truly equitable care.
In this series, we will watch a video lecture from the Baker Institute delivered by Dr. Dayna Bowen Matthew and discuss the information presented. Dayna Bowen Matthew, JD, PhD, is the Dean and Harold H. Greene Professor of Law at the George Washington University Law School. Dr. Matthew is a leader in public health and civil rights law who focuses on racial disparities in health care. She joined the UVA Law faculty in 2017 and is the author of the book Just Medicine: A Cure for Racial Inequality in American Health Care.
Please join us every-other week for the next 6 weeks, beginning this Friday, October 23rd at 6:00PM. We welcome you to come to as many of the sessions as you are able! Please don’t hesitate to join us even if you can’t make it to every event. We will watch a portion of the lecture video and then discuss what we learned together. Given the sensitive nature of these topics, we ask that you please register for the event ahead of time.
