TOPIC: Understanding Advanced Heart Disease
Heart failure affects about 5 million people in the United States and about 250,000 people die each year. Cardiologists have learned a lot about how to improve a person’s odds of living a longer, better quality of life. Learn about the risks and symptoms for heart failure and how to work with your cardiologist to improve your health and know when it makes sense to go to an advanced heart disease specialty program.
Dr. Juneman also will discuss the research project funded by the National Institutes of Health at UA Sarver Heart Center that is seeking better treatment options for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), a condition that affects half of heart failure patients and disproportionately affects women.
SPEAKER:
Elizabeth Juneman, MD, associate professor of medicine at the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center, board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and advanced heart failure/transplantation. Dr. Juneman is director of Outpatient Cardiology and conducts basic science research on mechanical and cellular remodeling in heart failure.
