Sarver Heart Center cardiology fellow selected for The Mark J. Friedman, MD, Outstanding Fellow Award

Iniya Rajendran, MBBS, MPH, cardiology fellow at the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center was selected to receive the Mark J. Friedman, MD, Outstanding Fellow Award. Recipients of the annual recognition demonstrate exemplary quality of work, peer and resident educational talent, attentiveness, decision-making and knowledge over the first two years of their fellowship training.

Dr. Rajendran began her fellowship at the Sarver Heart Center in July 2021 after completing internal medicine residency at Boston Medical Center. She graduated from Boston University School of Public Health and Imperial College London Faculty of Medicine for medical school.

“I was lucky to work with Dr. Friedman as a first year fellow where he patiently watched me struggle to engage the formidable right coronary artery,” said Dr. Rajendran. “I've come a long way since then and am grateful to be chosen for this award."

This is the third year of the annual award, announced at the cardiovascular medicine fellowship graduation ceremony. It was established in 2021 as a tribute to Dr. Friedman’s distinguished career in academic medicine, awarded to a second-year cardiology fellow.

Previous recipients include Sean McCandless, MD in 2022 and Mahesh Balakrishnan, MBBS in 2021.
