Senior Program Manager, Outreach and Education

Cara Macdonald Deery, MPH, is the Education and Outreach Senior Program Manager at the Sarver Heart Center, where she leads strategic initiatives to foster collaboration, engagement, and education in cardiovascular research. With a background in program management, health promotion, and strategic outreach, she develops and oversees symposia, community activities and groups, and professional development opportunities for researchers and clinicians.

Cara brings extensive experience in academic and health-focused organizations, managing communications, marketing, and partnership development. Born and raised in Connecticut, Cara earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Public Health at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, concentrating on community nutrition. She is passionate about translating complex scientific concepts into accessible information for diverse audiences, engaging community members, improving healthcare access, and supporting the next generation of cardiovascular scientists.

Driven by a passion for community building, Cara serves as the Center's voluntary Wellness Ambassador through University Life and Work Connections, offering opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to connect with each other through health promotion initiatives. Cara's long-term goals include researching educational strategies to develop tailored programs that empower marginalized groups and expand opportunities for better health outcomes.
