John D. Hughes, MD, FACS

Associate Clinical Professor, Surgery - (Clinical Series Track)

Dr. John Hughes is a clinical associate professor with the University of Arizona Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He is board-certified in both general surgery and vascular surgery and has a particular interest in complex aortic and renal artery procedures as well as endovascular surgery.

After receiving his medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Dr. Hughes completed a general surgery residency at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He then completed an organ transplantation fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and a research and clinical fellowship in vascular surgery at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Dr. Hughes is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Association for Vascular Surgeons, the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and the Southwestern Surgical Congress. He was chief of staff at University Medical Center from 2006-2008. Dr. Hughes was recently honored with the College of Medicine Faculty Mentoring Award (2016).
